Description

The new municipal complex addresses departmental growth in a continuously evolving city. It serves as both an anchor for the community and a catalyst for redefining East Tampa. The administration building and parking garage strategically face Hanna Avenue and establish an open space for the community known as ‘Hanna Square.’ Hanna Square has a multi-purpose lawn, a paved area, and stepped terraces with trees to provide a flexible environment for different events. A Solar trellis provides cover while producing energy for Hanna Square. Rain gardens frame Hanna Square to filter the stormwater runoffs naturally on-site. Facing Hanna Square, the entry to the Administration building has a floating Terra cotta mass shaped after Rogers Park, which has a significant history as the only park for the African American community in Tampa during segregation.
