Description
International law firm White & Case aimed to relocate their Tampa-based Global Operations Center to reflect their commitment to employee wellbeing and sustainability. The new space, occupying 1.75 floors in the Heights Union building near downtown Tampa, utilizes design to embody these values.
Previously, employees were isolated by job function in a layout dominated by closed offices and high panels, limiting interaction. The redesigned center now features an immersive, collaborative environment that promotes individuality and local engagement. The open concept encourages transparency, allowing for fluid communication among teams.
Guests enter through a custom sliding door made from recycled materials, leading to a warm reception area highlighted by a unique art installation from local artist Pep Rally. A monumental staircase connects the two floors, emphasizing team connectivity.
The design includes a multipurpose gathering space adjacent to the double-height stair, facilitating movement. Workspaces are flexible, accommodating over 200 employees with areas for focused work and collaborative gatherings. In addition to traditional desks, the layout incorporates informal meeting rooms and breakout spaces. Transitioning from high-paneled cubicles to an open floor plan posed challenges, prompting careful consideration of acoustics to ensure comfort and privacy.
To enhance wellbeing, the center features a private onsite health space equipped with medical advocacy services. The workplace showcases high ceilings, concrete floors, and materials like blackened steel and recycled wood, creating an industrial yet inviting atmosphere.
By aligning design with the natural landscape and prioritizing employee connection, White & Case reinforces its core values while advancing business outcomes for clients.
