Description
‘Nami,’ the Japanese word for ‘wave,’ offers a captivating experience where the theater of food meets the drama of design. Nestled within Lake Nona’s art-forward Wave Hotel, this intimate dining room is designed to captivate your senses from the moment you enter. Once inside, guests are enveloped in a sense of detachment—immersive and dimly lit, the space features focused lighting, curated sound design, and authentic materials that enhance the tastes and aromas of each dish.
Striking a balance between the knowledge of land and the mystery of the sea, Nami promises a stimulating adventure that blends the familiar with the unexpected. The design guides guests through a series of movements before reaching the main dining area. Upon entering, they are greeted by a host in a tranquil space before navigating through an oversized, pivoting panel that reveals the vibrant dining room. The warm, edited palette features delicate gold leaf, rich red-grained woods, and silky Japanese Maple trees, all set against a backdrop of ethereal murals by Dean Barger.
Inspired by a culture that reveres storytelling, Nami's design embodies authenticity, precision, and simplicity. The transportive quality of the space is fundamental to its success. From the exterior experience to the restaurant’s interior, every detail is crafted to evoke the feeling of “You can be anywhere in the world.” The windowless environment allows for complete immersion in the design theme, creating a symbolic escape from reality.
In collaboration with the client, the concept and design were developed simultaneously, resulting in a cohesive design solution rather than a response to a design problem. Nami’s allure, experiential dining approach, and sophisticated design make it a unique addition to the competitive restaurant landscape of Lake Nona and Orlando.
